Pre-Tap & Jazz: Ages 5-6 (K-1st grade) This is for students who wish to add to their dance experience with upbeat, clean movement (also recommended for the recreational dancer). This class will focus on teaching tap and jazz through learning dances.
Beginning Tap & Jazz: At least age 7 (2nd grade and up) This class is for students who wish to round out their dance training with these dance skills. It is a great upbeat class with clean movement (also recommended for the recreational dancer). Students will begin learning the tap &jazz skills and will learn dances in class..
Intermediate Jazz: At least age 10 (5th grade and up) This class is for students with some dance experience who wish to perfect their jazz dancing for musical theater or to round out their dance training (also recommended for the recreational dancer). Teacher placement is required.
Youth Musical Theater: Ages 8-12 Students will study tap, jazz, drama, and voice. In order to benefit from the material that will be covered in this class, students need to continue their dance training in the other dance classes offered.
Musical Theater: At least age 13 (8th grade and up) By teacher placement only. Students are required to attend ballet, modern, or jazz class at Virginia Civic Ballet. The goal is to train the student for a career on musical theater. Students will study tap, jazz, drama, and voice. Guest teachers will be featured. In order to benefit from the material that will be covered in this class, students need to continue their dance training in the other dance classes offered. Students will perform with the professional company (VCB) in the spring production.
Intro to Modern Dance: (This class does not meet year round. Please speak with Mrs. Kelly if you are interested). This class will teach strength conditioning and Pilates-based exercises as a warm up. Students will increase their knowledge and skills in Modern Dance. Students will have the opportunity to perform with the professional company (VCB) in the spring production. Students must have 2 years ballet or modern training (or teacher placement) to attend this class.
