VCB seeks donors and grants in order to be able to offer scholarships to students. VCB also uses funds from fundraising events. There are three kinds of scholarships that are offered. The number of scholarships offered is based upon donations and grants that VCB receives. No scholarships offer more than 50% off tuition. A scholarship cannot be given for the registration fee, nor can it be used for the performance fee. 1. Need-based scholarship. Students applying for this must present proof of financial need. This proof is required, as VCB must present proof of need when applying for grants. Students need to request and complete an application from VCB and present a copy of their family’s most recent income tax filing. 2. Talent-based scholarships. These are awarded by audition only. The audition judges may not be any member of the VCB staff, company, or Board. 3. Work-based scholarships: These are limited by funds available, and are based entirely upon the desire and ability of the student to work in exchange for tuition. An application, which may be requested from the office, must be filled out. The applicant must be at least 16 years old, unless special permission is sought by a parent. (A request for a younger applicant will require special forms). The applicant will then be interviewed by a Board member. The work to be performed will be outlined and the hours of work will be set. The tuition deduction will be arranged according to the applicant’s age and experience in performing assigned duties. If an applicant fails to perform assigned duties satisfactorily, fails to show up on time, or violates any other rule, the work-based scholarship will be revoked for the remainder of the year. The kinds of work that are available include: teaching classes, cleaning the studio, office work (requires computer skills), and making telephone calls.
Please note that VCB cannot legally barter parents’ services for tuition. VCB is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization that must follow specific rules for obtaining contract services. Parents and others who wish to VOLUNTEER their time and talent to support VCB are invited to call or e-mail to make arrangements. Parents who wish to be hired by VCB on a contract basis for specific jobs are free to approach the Board with proposals. All such contracts must be in writing, and approved by the Board in advance of any work being performed. |
