Ballet 1-B: At least age 8 (3rd grade and up) This is the stepping-stone to Grade 1 (first year of Cecchetti syllabus). Students will learn the entire Grade 1 barre and begin Grade 1 steps in the center. Theory will be taught. There will be time for dance games to encourage creative thinking. Students will have the opportunity to perform 2 dances in the major production.
Grade 1/2: At least age 9 (4th grade and up) Students will learn the Grade 1 and Grade 2 syllabus and theory. Students, who so desire and are qualified, may take the national Cecchetti dance exam. This class is preparatory for beginning pointe work. Students will have the opportunity to perform 2 dances in the major productions.
Grade 3/4: At least age 10 (5th grade and up) For students who have completed Grade 1/2 or by teacher placement. Students will learn the Grade 3 and Grade 4 syllabus and theory. They may be beginning pointe work at the barre or beginning pointe in the center. Student will be introduced to “open syllabus work” (non Cecchetti). Students will have the opportunity to perform 2 dances in the major productions.
Grade 5/6: At least age 13 (8th grade and up) For students who have passed Grade 4 or by teacher placement. Students will work on Grade 5 and 6 syllabus and theory (this is the advanced level work). Students will learn advanced center pointe work. These students will have the opportunity to perform several dances and demi-solo roles in the major productions. Serious dancers are encouraged to audition for positions as apprentices to the professional company.
